Youth Social Action Facilitator

We are looking for a creative and inspiring individual to join our Hope in Herefordshire team

Purpose: To develop and deliver social action projects across rural Herefordshire. To work as part of a team and develop links with education providers, youth/other organisations with a focus to leaving a lasting legacy/impact.  
Commitment: 1 year fixed term contract, part time 24 hours per week with some evening and weekend work

Role and responsibilities

  • Research, develop and deliver social action projects across the county 
  • Raise the profile of social action among young people
  • Understand and link in with rural communities across the county 
  • Develop and deliver a programme for Hopes social action participants
  • Manage the Youth Management Team, helping them plan and deliver youth-led campaigns, projects and events across the county 
  • Develop school based projects with the intention of extending its impact further 
  • Supervise youth volunteers and sessional volunteers 
  • Contribute to the monitoring and evaluation of the service and provide written reports of work undertaken as required 
  • Promote social action involvement and facilitate feedback 
  • Implement and follow Hope’s safeguarding policy and procedures for children and vulnerable adults 
  • Build links with schools, colleges and youth/other organisations 
  • Design and deliver presentations, workshops, assemblies to promote the work of Hope 
  • Work with the frontline team to share good practice, attend team meetings and contribute to the development of Hope’s services 
  • Maintain accurate records, ensuring client notes are accurate 
  • Observe safe working practices at all times and follow all of Hope’s policies and procedures 

Things we're looking for

Knowledge and Qualifications 

  • Qualifications and/or experience in subjects relevant to social action and working with young people 
  • Understanding of the needs of children and young people who have a loved one who is seriously ill 
  • Understanding of the issues faced by children and young people living rurally 
  • Understanding of health and safety in a variety of settings with experience of managing all aspects 
  • Knowledge of a range of youth, statutory and independent sector services 
  • Current knowledge of child and vulnerable adult protection/safeguarding issues 
  • Full driving licence (essential) 
  • License to drive a minibus – D1 or MIDAS (desirable) 


  • Experience of providing young people with access to high quality social action opportunities 
  • Experience of working with young people and those from diverse backgrounds 
  • Experience of planning and delivering projects 
  • Establishing and maintaining boundaries when working with children and young people 
  • Experience of working in a team 
  • Experience of working with external agencies 
  • Experience of managing volunteers, in particular youth volunteers 
  • Experience of following safeguarding procedures 
  • Experience of managing a diary

  • Ability to engage with children and young people, bringing energy and enthusiasm to the role 
  • Ability to understand, assess and implement health and safety measures in a variety of settings 
  • Ability to connect with relevant organisations locally and nationally

Salary details: £27,110 (pro Rata)
