Guest Blog: George
June 13, 2025
This month our blog comes from George; George has accessed support as a young person, been one of the fantastic volunteers on our Y-Team and most recently has completed his work experience with us!
Accessing support
Hope is a charity for young carers and young people with an ill family member, and I have been involved with it for nearly six years now.
I’m George and I came to Hope Services as my mum has Cystic Fibrosis, and her health has worsened more and more over my life; and Hope was able to support me during this tough time.
It felt so relieving to know there were people in similar situations to me that I could relate to and feel at ease with, whereas at school I did not. It made me feel less isolated and more understood.
Hope has always been there for me and other young carers, through the good and the bad.
Being a member of the Y-Team
I was offered the opportunity to join the Youth Team at Hope, which involves volunteering in group youth sessions to help young people have a safe space, and organising Hope on the Road trips as well as fundraising events.
This has also given me experience for my future career path as well as work experience.
Where we go
With Hope in Herefordshire we get to go on wellbeing day trips to places like Sea Life, Trampoline Parks and Barbecues. These have helped everyone have experiences they might not have been able to have at home, and have made me and others feel so much better and have an escape from home life.
