Chair of Trustees
We have a vacancy for a new Chair of Trustees to lead our charity forwards.
Purpose: To help our charity reach the next stage of our journey, with the skills, knowledge and expertise to help drive the organisation forward - shaping our strategy for the future as we aim for outstanding performance in all that we do.
Commitment: Seven Trustee meetings a year (mostly online), plus some time outside of the meetings completing Chair duties.
Role and responsibilities
As Chair, the post-holder (along with other Board members) oversees the governance, strategy and performance of the charity and its associated operations.
Things we're looking for
- Monitor whether the service complies with its governing document and standards, and if the needs of the beneficiaries are being met
- Ensure overall legal compliance is met across all areas of the organisation
- With the finance trustee, oversee annual budgets, financial planning and ongoing risk assessment of the financial position of the charity
- Actively contribute to policy setting and the strategic direction of the charity
- Evaluate charity performance against targets, budgets, plans and charitable objectives
- Support the Senior Management Team, including line management of the Operations Manager
- Support other members of the Board, including identifying training and development opportunities and ensuring appropriate induction procedures are in place
- Maintain appropriate relationships with regulatory bodies such as the Charity Commission and Companies House
- Ensure equipment and assets are adequately maintained and insured
- Ensure the highest possible standards of governance, including ensuring that appropriate delegations are in place and documented, decisions are properly taken and recorded and conflicts of interests are managed
- Maintain clear terms of reference, policies and procedures for the Board of Trustees
- Regularly review the composition of the Board of Trustees (skills and diversity) and consider succession planning for the Board
- Chair the Board and other meetings effectively, acting as the guardian of due process to encourage well-informed decision-making processes which draw on contributions from all Trustees, and ensure compliance with the Board’s approved procedures

- Demonstrable leadership expertise – charity leadership is preferred, but not required

We provide training on the legal responsibilities of a trustee, as well as an internal induction programme. Other training is available as required.
